Deep Cycle Batteries Explained

Deep cycle batteries are a common battery type that is suited to many applications. Deep cycle batteries are designed to provide power at a steady rate over a long period of time.

Deep cycle batteries come in different types such as:

-      Flooded (Wet Cell) batteries
-     Gel Cell   batteries
-      AGM batteries
-      VRLA batteries
-      Lithium-ion batteries

They can be used in applications such as

-      Renewable energy storage systems
-      Motorhomes/Recreational vehicles and caravans
-      Marine use - boats, jet skis, fishing boats
-      Electric wheelchairs
-      Power for generators (good for use on remote worksites)
-      Industrial Machinery (forklifts, floor sweepers)

Deep Cycle batteries are very common and used in a wide variety of applications, more than what’s listed above. They work when a chemical reaction takes place, that develops a voltage that produces electricity. A major benefit of Deep cycle batteries is that they have a good cycle life, so they can be charged and discharged many times through its life. They are ideal for application where a fast recharge or superior discharge is required.

Deep cycle AGM batteries are a popular option with many battery users, as they are extremely safe, there are no leaks or spills as they’re fully sealed. This also means that they are maintenance free and you didn't have to fill them with water. They do not require special hazardous shipping, so its cheaper if you need to have it shipped, and they can also be mounted in almost any position, including sideways and upside down. The terminals also don’t corrode and rust as easily.

All of this also means they will last longer, so you get more use out of your battery and will spend less money on repair, maintenance, and replacements.
