Incorporating a DC/DC Charger into Your System
Choosing the right Trolltek™ DC/DC charger is crucial. For a 36V Lithium battery, the TTKCH9 model is designed to deliver optimal charging performance.
Setup Instructions:
- Connect the input power cables (typically 12V) and link the output cables to your lithium battery.
- The yellow ignition trigger wire requires a +12V signal to activate the charger. If this functionality isn’t needed, connect the yellow wire to the red input wire for continuous operation.
Example Use Case: When using a trolling motor setup on a boat, power the DC/DC charger from the primary starting battery connected to the outboard. The outboard's charging system replenishes this power while running. However, to prevent draining the starting battery, connect the yellow trigger wire to the boat engine's run signal. This ensures the charger only activates when the engine is running, provided the outboard delivers 438W of power (~36A @ 12V).
For even better protection, consider adding the Trolltek™ Programmable Voltage Sensing Relay (PVSR). The PVSR intelligently monitors battery voltage, only activating the DC/DC charger when conditions are optimal. This setup prevents accidental battery drainage and extends the life of your lithium batteries.
