AGM & SLA Batteries
What are AGM and SLA Batteries? SLA or sealed-lead battery, better known as VRLA or valve regulated lead-acid battery, is a type of lead-acid battery which has a sealed container. So it can be mounted in different positions unlike the flooded vented lead-acid battery. It is a rechargeable battery. The AGM or absorbent glass mat battery is a type of SLA battery where sulphuric acid is sealed in a fiberglass mat. The other type of SLA battery is the Gel cells where silica dust is added to the electrolyte to form a thick like gel. These batteries have different performances, prices and applications.

Are AGM Batteries similar to lead acid?
Yes. AGM and flooded batteries are both lead batteries that contain electrolyte solutions. These solutions cause chemical reaction to produce electrons.
How long do AGM batteries last?
AGM Batteries last six to ten years which is double the life of wet or flooded batteries.
How often do AGM batteries should be charged?
Unlike regular lead batteries which need six month interval for charging, the AGM batteries last longer before needing charge. This is due to its capability to sit in storage for a longer period and not prone to sulfation.
What modern devices use AGM Batteries and SLA batteries?
AGM batteries are present in UPS and high-end vehicles while SLA batteries are used in modern motorcycles, generators, ATVs, workout equipment, home alarm systems, toys, and backup systems.
