The EVE EF651615T is a high temperature lithium thionyl chloride (Li-SOCl2) primary cell in the LTC-3PN prismatic footprint, delivering a nominal 3.6V and 0.4Ah (400mAh) from a 6g package. The "T" suffix is what sets this cell apart from the standard EF651615: it is rated for continuous operation from -60°C right through to +125°C, which puts it in a small group of primary cells that can live inside hot, sealed, hard to reach assemblies for years at a time.

It was developed for low drain, long life duty where the device will never realistically be opened again. Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) are the headline application, and the same characteristics suit utility metering, alarm and security hardware, asset tracking units, memory backup and under bonnet automotive electronics.

Shelf life and storage performance of the EF651615T

EVE's accelerated storage testing on this cell ran 200 days at +60°C, which is taken as the equivalent of 10 years of storage at +25°C. On subsequent discharge at 0.5mA the aged cell tracked closely against the initial curve, with only a modest reduction in discharge duration. That is the practical reason Li-SOCl2 is specified for sealed, long life products: the cell is still doing its job a decade later.

Store the EF651615T at +30°C maximum for best results. As with all Li-SOCl2 cells, prolonged storage can cause passivation of the lithium anode, which shows up as a brief voltage delay on first load. Designs that draw a small conditioning current, or that pair the cell with a capacitor, handle this without issue.

Fitting and design notes for the EF651615T

This is a 3.6V nominal cell. It is not a drop in substitute for 3V lithium manganese dioxide or 1.5V chemistries in the same physical envelope, so confirm your circuit is designed for the higher terminal voltage before ordering.

Do not solder directly to the cell body. Use the supplied pin terminations, or specify a tabbed cell. Direct soldering to the can risks internal heat damage and seal failure.

In demanding pulse applications, EVE recommends pairing the cell with a lithium ion battery capacitor or a standard capacitor to support peak current draw while the cell handles the average load.
