ISO 9001 - What Does This Mean?

More often than not, you see this little sign on a battery...

While most people tend to ignore it, the more curious ones might ask what this means.

ISO is the International Organisation for Standardisation. According to their website, what they do is develop world-class specifications for products, services, and systems, that manufacturers have to meet, this, in turn, ensures that these products are of high quality and are safe to be used by the general public.

ISO 9001

This is a quality management standard, part of the ISO 9000 family. These standards are made for companies to follow in order to make sure their products and services meet the requirements of their customers, and improvements can be made where needed.

Specifically, it is based on the main quality management principles for businesses.

These include:

- Strong customer focus.

- The motivation and implication of top management.

- The process approach and continual improvement.

This standard basically ensures that the product the customer is buying is of good quality and meets the standard of other products in their industry.

Every five years, all ISO standards are reviewed, the standard is currently at ISO 9001:2015.

They are reviewed so frequently in order to stay up to date and relevant with the current marketplace, and also to be compatible with other management systems. A company has three years to transition their quality management system to the updated standard.

Why is this important?

While this information isn't crucial for you to know, it's good to understand that an ISO 9001 certification is a sign that you are buying a decent product.

In terms of batteries, all of the batteries in the SSB catalog are ISO 9001 certified, as are Fusion and Fullriver's products.
