Here's How To Keep a Battery from Overheating for Only $8
If you think there’s no better use for an esky other than storing that weekend stash of Carlton Dry’s, then read on.

Storing a few Green Demons isn't the only use for an esky

As we said in a previous post, batteries and excessive heat are a really bad match.

Too much heat will damage a battery, meaning in 6 months you’ll find yourself having to fork out your hard-earned money to replace them.

Whether you’re a builder, electrician, plumber or any kind of tradie, you’re always driving around with battery powered tools and generators in the car. And with Summer coming up that means your batteries will be hot-boxed in your truck or exposed to the boiling sun all day. It seems like you just can’t win.

Luckily, we’ve picked up an interesting trick here at Battery Specialists , that could save your battery.

Firstly, you'll need a Styrofoam cooler.

This one here from Aussie Disposals, which only costs $8, will do the trick as it is very insulated and non-conductive.

The esky has to be Styrofoam!

Plastic and pouch type eskies won’t work as they have bad insulation and issues with static electricity.

All you need to do is keep your batteries inside the cooler when you're not using it, that way they'll be insulated from the heat and you won’t have to worry about it destroying the shelf life of your batteries.

Also, some bonus advice...

Never store a battery in the refrigerator.

There are some people out there who will try to tell you that storing a battery in the fridge will help cool it down, and some may tell you that it'll increase the batteries' performance (it doesn't).

In fact, doing this will cause damage to a battery by causing it to rust and corrode. Batteries are made to be stored at room temperature, and exposure to extreme temperatures will reduce the performance.
