HBPlus Battery Specialists and the Battery Stewardship Council
We are committed to creating a circular lifecycle for Batteries. We have the goal to have 95% of all batteries purchased from us to be recycled by 2025.
To enable this to happen we have partnered with Ecobatt to be able to now offer this circular life cycle Australia Wide so you can purchase from us in bulk and we can arrange to have your batteries recycled to reduce/eliminate landfill from batteries sold by us.
What is the BSC - Battery Stewardship Council?
The Battery Stewardship Council or BSC as we will refer to it from here on in refers to responsible management of a product, such as batteries from design through to its end of life. For batteries, it is helpful to look at the entire supply chain and consider how this might apply depending on who is taking part in the process.
In February 2018, an industry briefing was held primarily for those who would be liable parities to a battery stewardship scheme. The briefing included presentations on key drivers for establishing a scheme, an update from the Department of Environment and Energy, and presented the results of the scheme.
As a result of discussions at the industry briefing, it was agreed that two pathways be further scoped:
Inclusion of loose batteries in the scope of the National Televisions and Computer Recycling Scheme using either the current four ‘Arrangements’ or a battery specific Arrangement able to take a more tailored approach to scope and performance measures, and
Establishment of a new voluntary scheme authorised by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
Given this increased momentum and the need for both government and industry to work together during the design phase of the schemes, the Industry Working Group decided that a new Battery Stewardship Council (BSC) be established.
How Can I Get My Batteries Recycled?
Depending on your battery usage we can offer a FREE recycling service where we provide a receptacle for the batteries. The receptacle size will vary depending on your requirements from a small paint tin sized bucket, 44-gallon drums and right up to a pallet-sized metal container with a sealable lid.
Alternatively for household quantities, they can be returned to our factory at 8 Network Drive Carrum Downs or you can take them into any major supermarket or retailer such as Coles, Woolworths, Office Works and JB-HIFI just to name a few.
