Everything You Need To Know About Energy Storage

It’s an exciting time to be alive if you find the storage of renewable energy interesting. We have California based tech genius (and potential supervillain?) Elon Musk, who is making strides every day in the development of large and domestic scale battery storage. There are also some exciting projects happening right in Australia with large-scale energy storage.

A Brief History

While fossil fuels have been and continue to be the world’s primary source of energy, concerns of climate change and economic factors have contributed to the unprecedented growth of renewable energy in the 21stcentury. Fossil fuels did not require storage as they would simply burn what they needed to suit demand. However, renewables can’t do that as there are times when there is no sun or wind.

Other forms of energy storage

Forms of energy storage other than batteries can include:

-       Molten Salt Storage

-       Thermal Energy Storage

-       Compressed Air Storage

-       Pumped Hydro Power

This technology is still in the early stages of its development, and it's exciting to see what lies ahead.
